My solution to distinguish 'being in a good condition' versus 'being in a maniac symptom' : Read a hard-to-read textbook I think it's enough to easily figure out just read a difficult textbook. When I am in a better condition than usual, this reading looks fine and faster than usual. But when I am just being in higher feeling, this reading is almost impossible because of too much distraction on thinking other things. That's my solution.
